The Luxury Safari Company Ltd was founded in 2010 by Rose Hipwood, who has lived in and out of Africa for many years, so developing a deep knowledge of each and every remote corner of this impressive continent. Rose passionately believes that bespoke holidays are made special by the people involved, the unique locations of the lodges, and the intimate and personal nature of each trip – it is with this ethos that Rose and her dedicated team plan seamless holidays for discerning clients wanting something out of this world. Rose’s deep love and passion for Africa is portrayed in her manner, and a conversation with Rose is nothing less than entertaining and exciting, her enthusiasm is totally and utterly infectious.
Sophie Milligan worked on a horse safari in South Africa for a couple of months in 2008 where she quickly became obsessed with everything African. Since then she has worked around the world from the Pampas’ in Argentina right up into the Alps of Switzerland and France. Sophie has always been pulled back to Africa and has certainly found her feet as one of The Luxury Safari Company’s top safari experts. Trips to Zambia and Kenya followed and the love she has for the places and people she has met throughout her travels is evident as soon as you speak to her.
To the Maasai people who knew him as a boy, Sam Stogdale (co-founder of The Luxury Safari Company’s pro guiding sister company) was always destined for a prominent position in the safari trade. The son of renowned Kenyan hotelier David Stogdale, Sam spent much of his formative years with the young tribesmen who were training to become lodge managers and guides under his father’s tutelage. His godfather was the legendary John ole Parmasau, who would go on to become one of East Africa’s most celebrated Maasai guides. As mentoring pedigrees go, Sam had few equals which has resulted in Sam becoming widely known as one of the best guides across Africa – guiding our trips to Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana. Sam is usually accompanied on safari by his wife Antonia, widely regarded as one of the finest chefs in the safari business. Trained at Leith’s Cookery School in London, Antonia has helped many of Kenya’s leading camps and lodges to train their chefs and design their menus. Her participation guarantees Sam’s guests the very finest fare to be had in the bush anywhere!
Paolo Parazzi (co-founder of The Luxury Safari Company’s pro guiding sister company) has a surprising number of strings to his bow. A respected conservationist, trained accountant, seasoned diver and boat skipper, this third-generation Kenyan is equally at home running safaris in remote and rugged bushland as he is leading long-distance kitesurfing expeditions, tagging green turtles, or free diving with black tip reef sharks. For visitors to East Africa who truly hanker for a balanced blend of ‘beach and bush’, there are few more qualified – or intrepid – hosts. As a leader of a new generation of globally connected Kenyan guides, Paolo has spread his wings to lead exclusive private safaris across Zambia, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. In the process, he has developed close ties with a number of celebrated conservation charities and their field staff, as well as strong friendships within several traditional Maasai communities – connections that add a compelling extra dimension to his safaris.
Hannah McHardy: Hannah’s love of travel started at an early age. Experiencing many countries cultures, sights and smells whilst accompanying her parents and 3 siblings on their travels even before the age of ten. Soon after an opportunity to visit and study the Florida Everglades arose, this first taste of independent travel (along with some pretty impressive gator sightings!) had Hannah hooked. Following on, Hannah’s education included time studying in America, Athens and Malta garnering first-hand knowledge of languages, alongside the business, sustainability and legal practices of the tourism industry. Hannah returned to London spending time at the Mail on Sunday Travel before a chance offer led to Music, another of her great passions. After ten years in the industry working alongside many artists from U2 and Amy Winehouse to McFly and The Feeling, Hannah’s love of adventure never left her and alongside her Australian husband and 3 young children, continues to travel the world. Hannah now channels her passion for travel, organisational skills and keen eye for detail into her work at The Luxury Safari Company, aside from travelling and music Hannah’s interests include cooking, reading and horse riding.
