We would like to share with you some updates from one of our fantastic camps that we list on our website. The Governor’s Camp Collection has undergone quite a few major updates and refurbishments which is fantastic, so we thought we would share with you what they have shared with us! Everybody get excited, as most of the news is awesome!

The page on which you can look at photographs, read camps blogs, see what activities they have to offer and have a sneak peek at the rooms of course! So, you can now have a peak at Loldia House, which has recently undergone a beautiful upgrade of soft furnishings. All by Chris Payne of White Elephant Trading Co. Loldia House has never looked so snazzy with an array of metal and glass lighting, wooden four-poster beds, stunning antique dressers, wicker furniture from Bali and charming accessories in the form of rustic candlesticks, bamboo-brass luggage racks, gilded mirrors and ceramic bedside lamps. Both feather and hollo-fibre pillows, linens, towels and luxury dressing gowns have been added. The staff are also looking extremely professional in new uniforms. New spotlights have been purchased for the luxury cars, so Governor’s guests can experience the thrill of the night game drives and have the opportunity to spot nocturnal animals such as leopard, Verraux’s Eagle-owl, bush pigs, beat eared foxes, aardvark, porcupines and Spring Hares.

Loldia House combines extremely well with the rest of anyone’s Kenya safari as it is the perfect place to rest and relax either before or after your trip. It is also incredibly well located for day trips to the famous Lake Nakuru National Park.

There is so much to see and do in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley! Lake Elementeita is one of the Great Rift Valley soda lakes, and most importantly listed as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. A major nesting and breeding ground for the Great White Pelicans as well as being an important foraging site for the Lesser Flamingo, the lake is the perfect option for those wanting to capture some phenomenal bird photography against a contrast of wildlife including zebra and giraffe. Not at all far from Loldia House (30mins) Lake Elementeita is an incredibly pretty spot to head to with a picnic lunch and some cold drinks (or warm, depending on the weather!).

Exploring the Eburu Forest is another close-by option. Breathtakingly beautiful, with over 8,715 hectares of prime indigenous forest contained within steep hills and deep valleys. Those in pursuit of spotting the mountain bongo (a critically endangered antelope) should look here although it is thought that only about 12 exist within this area. The forest is also home to around 40 other species of mammals including the Colobus Monkeys and Blue Monkeys as well as many many bird species. Views from the Eburu are equally as spectacular as the animal sightings – stretching across Lake Naivasha to the south east, Lake Elementeita to the North and Lake Nakuru to the North West.

A little factual information that you may or may not be aware of – did you know that Governor’s Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is wholly community-owned? Did you also know that all guests staying at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge make a direct contribution to the community of the area? This stunning lodge located in Rwanda, is celebrating ten years since the official opening by President Paul Kagame in 2008, they have been reflecting back on the partnership and overall achievements of Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge and the surrounding SACOLA community.

To date, the lodge has raised over $3 million for the community conservation and as a result the SACOLA community has provided and implemented numerous socio-economic development programs to uplift the lives of its members.

And last but by no means least, Governor’s Il Moran Camp has reported that Phase 1 of the new upgrade is now complete! This includes all new soft furnishing by Chris Payne of the White Elephant Trading Co. plus brand new terrazzo flooring in the bathrooms and on the verandas of each tent. Phase 2 in the upgrade will include a new central bar area and dining tent which will complete the overall ‘understated luxury’ look that this camp is very well known for.
