La Clé and Coot Club 2024 Rates and key updates
One of the most sought-after hotels in the Cape Winelands and fresh from a re-brand at the end of last year and a new website. La Clé is as gorgeous as ever. Situated on two working wine and plum farms, yet in the heart of the village of Franschhoek, close to shops, restaurants and local attractions.
Each of the four villas boasts its own chic regional African style, plus a private pool, flowery garden, chandeliers, wood burning fireplaces and wide, sunset-facing verandas with barbeques. There are fully equipped kitchens but this this is self-catering with a twist: breakfasts are laid out each morning, and your 400- thread count sheets are turned down nightly. The quartet accommodate 2-8 guests: biggest is four -bedroom Le Colonial; La Grange has three chambers, and Le Manoir and La Galerie both have two. Air-conditioning and underfloor heating ensure the temperature’s always right.
Each guest is allocated a butler -ask him or her to fill your fridge with local produce while you’re out- and a concierge service that can arrange private wine tastings with prominent producers. An unmissable signature evening is the traditional South African ‘Braai’ which is hosted by your butler and includes setting up the entire evening, cooking and clearing away -for a nominal price per head of around £20!

An eclectic mix of traditional stone cottages and contemporary-line boathouses. The design does nothing to detract from the natural environment, and the new boathouses make the most of the magnificent views across the lagoon to the imposing Mannschynop mountains. The Boathouses, Port and Starboard, are fabulous nautical- themed homes ideal for relaxed holidays on the water. The Stone Cottages retain the charm of a typical stone building tucked away into the Milkwood forests and beautiful outdoor seating areas.
