As we also receive word from two of Northern Kenya’s big boys on their 2026 rates it’s important to highlight the amazing conservation work being done on Borana Conservancy – where Borana Lodge and Lengishu Private House are located. Borana stuns anyone who visits with its dramatic vistas all the way to Mount Kenya, rolling hills, rocky outcrops, open plains and hugely varying habitats. Borana was lucky enough to introduce rhino to the conservancy and has done an amazing job at providing a safe haven for them – their park and conservation fees are higher than most other conservancies at $235 USD per person per night, but this is invested wisely and has meant that endangered species such as rhino can really thrive here – totally protected. It has also meant that they can do far more than other conservancies to help the local community who surround this protected land – many of whom also work at the lodges or amongst the anti poaching teams.

As well as the large conservation fees 24% of the bednight fee is also put straight back into the conservation pot, while the rest is used to maintain the lodges and provide employment for communities within the lodges themselves. Borana Lodge itself is part of the Global Ecosphere Retreat – considered one of the toughest sustainability audits one can have, and they passed the base standard with flying colours and are now acknowledged as one of the best privately protected areas in the world.

Borana Lodge has four cottages, and two family cottages – making your stay here intimate, relaxed and informal. Each cottage has lots of privacy and you can be as social or anti-social as you like. Borana Lodge is old fashioned authentic Kenya as its best with the advantage of huge plethora of things to do such as day and night game drives, riding safaris, mountain biking, eBiking, walking safaris, rhino tracking, behind the scenes tours of conservation initiatives, tours of Waitabit Farm and sundowner excursions.

Lengishu private house which sits in Borana Conservancy is just fabulous – a real home from home where one can kick off their shoes and really immerse themselves in the feeling that you have your own safari home in Africa. Lengishu has 6 stunning suites all of which face East into the valley below – offering the most exceptional sunrise views. Safari days always revolve around the sunrise and sunset and to wake up with the sunrise is enough to heal the most work weary soul. Lengishu has been designed to be private, comfortable and homely – with access to all of the amazing activities Borana Conservancy has to offer.

All of the properties and camps we deal with are very focussed on conservation of wildlife and communities – we wouldn’t have it any other way and would not work with companies who do not share our endeavours to preserve Africa’s wildlife and people, however if looking for somewhere that offers that little bit extra when it comes to responsible tourism then Borana has to be a competitor.
