Going on a luxury safari doesn’t always have to be strenuous, it can be incredibly relaxing too as you soak up the sun and enjoy being in prime wilderness. There is nothing like being amongst the birds and the bees, without a building or person in sight to sooth the soul and really relax you. Many of the luxury safari camps and lodges we deal with have fantastic suites which are often not used enough as people are out on game drives. Here are our top five luxury safari suites where one should really simply kick back and relax.
Saruni Samburu, Northern Kenya
This magical lodge sits high up amongst a rocky outcrop with some of the most breathtaking views one can imagine. Depending on the time of year you will also be able to see lots of game, or the Samburu tribes’ red shukas in the distance. The rooms themselves are vast with outdoor showers, large beds and sitting areas and everything is made to maximise the views. Here one can also have a relaxing massage in the massage hut which of course also maximises the views. The two swimming pools are also ideal places for hanging out in the heat of the day.
Chitwa Chitwa, Sabi Sands, South Africa
Chitwa has suites which offer what they lovingly call a ‘deck safari’ – you can literally sit on your own private deck, or in your plunge pool and watch the wildlife go by – the dam laps gently against the decking and on the opposite side of this lily pad covered dam elephants and other game species come to drink. The modern and luxurious suites are simply asking to be used and so time spent in these is definitely no hardship.
Chinzombo, South Luangwa, Zambia
These vast suites overlook the Luangwa River which is famous for the amount of wildlife action is attracted to it – the suites are modern, vast and so comfortable that you will literally want to live there forever. Sit in your plunge pool in the heat of the day as elephants walk right past, and lions lap the river. It is truly magical as all of Zambia is but Chinzombo has long been known as one of the most luxurious of all.
Madikwe Hills, Madikwe, South Africa
Madikwe boasts rolling red dusty hills, waterholes, thick bush and stunning scenery – it’s no wonder that the private and exclusive suites at Madikwe Hills make the most of this fact by positioning you perfectly to see it all. The suites here are also modern and quirky with comfort oozing out of every wall.
Lamai Nomad, Northern Tanzania
These quirky and luxurious rooms are a real treat for anyone staying there – from July until October the plains below will often be dotted with thousands of wildebeest and at other times of year elephants and other game species can easily be seen from your verandah. The rooms are simple but exceptionally comfortable and have a homeliness about them, which relaxes you straight away.
