The world changes and develops so quickly, sometimes we can feel a bit lost and behind the times with keeping up with all the changes! However, there are some things we are completely clued up on, especially when it comes to protecting the planet and ensuring we do our utmost in protecting and caring for wildlife and their eco-systems. We are all aware of climate change and the planet heating up. There are many camps and lodges who have reacted remarkably quickly in the fight for climate change and have developed and changed some of the things they do, to assist in this fight in protecting the planet. Most of the camps and lodges we work with throughout Africa already work hard to ensure as little footprint and impact on the planet already, by installing solar panels for electricity throughout the camp (one thing Africa isn’t without is sunlight, so this was always a no brainer!) however, there has been a strong push on changing the types of vehicles used on safari, turning the as guzzling land cruisers or Land Rovers into fully electric vehicles.

We wanted to bring your attention to two new camps which both now use electric 4×4 vehicles on safari. One of which is located in Kenya’s Masai Mara – Emboo River Camp and the other in South Africa’s Sabi Sands – Cheetah Plains Villas.

Located on the banks of the Emboo River within the heart of the Masai Mara is Emboo River Camp. The camps whole ethos is focused on leaving as lighter footprint to the environment as possible, so each of their safari vehicles are all electrically powered using the charge from the in-house solar panels, which also help to charge the electricity throughout the camp as well. Consisting of River rooms, studio suites and small studios, you are spoilt for choice when staying within this part of Kenya – imagine ‘working from home’ here and logging into a zoom call, with an elephant casually wandering through the background, people will probably think it is an elaborate screen affect! Enjoy game drives morning and evening, sumptuous meals cooked and prepared freshly from fabulous cooks and chefs, cool off in the camps refreshing swimming pool, enjoy a delightful spa treatment with views overlooking the river and a warm African breeze keeping you refreshed, explore the surrounding landscape on horseback, on foot and even from the air in a hot air balloon ride, nothing is impossible here at Emboo River Camp.

Our second eco-conscious camp is in South Africa’s Sabi Sands. Not only is this camp the epitome of luxury on safari, but they have also been very clever with their eco-conscious ways. Cheetah Plains Villas, with its elegant style and design and stunning artwork dotted throughout, is the perfect stay for those seeking the ultimate in privacy. Cheetah Plains Villas is an exclusive use safari experience in one of the most incredible game viewing areas in South Africa. Each of the villas can accommodate up to 8 guests, perfect for groups of friends of families to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The hospitality team are wonderfully brilliant, and nothing is too much for them when staying at Cheetah Plains, with a culinary team with exceptional skills, spa therapists to wean out those tired knots from your back as well as your own personal field guide and tracker team, all dedicated to your wants and needs when staying at Cheetah Plains. Each of the Land Cruisers used on your safari here are all electric, charged by the in-house solar panels.
