Its all happening in the Masai Mara. After an incredible migration season – which is still going – we thought we would update you on some of the wonderful scenes and sights experienced from one of our favourite camps in the Mara, Richards River Camp. This wonderful, incredibly small boutique camp has spacious, private and interior design to die for tented suites. The food here is almost all grown on site, and most definitely all made by hand and it is really delicious. Self-sufficient, this delightful camp has solar panels (hidden in the bush) that power the whole camp as well. It really is a wonderful place to stay.

The family run camp, sent out a heartfelt update earlier this week, so we thought it would be nice to share some of the honest things they have to say about the camp, the people who stay and the team.

Richard’s River Camp will be adding a brand spanking new family tent to the complement of accommodations at the camp just in time for Christmas! ‘yule’ be delighted (!) by this sumptuous, spacious new tent which has been beautifully constructed as a self-contained space with two en-suite bedrooms and a shared communal living area. This gorgeous new tent occupies a secluded corner of the camp, slightly removed from the main area itself, and once Richard & Liz’s Mara home. The family tent will comfortably accommodate extended family groups or friends and offers and abundance of privacy for those guests who might prefer to keep more to themselves, or simply be together under one roof. Family tent guests will also enjoy the option of choosing private dining or mixing in with other camp guests, whichever they may prefer, be it either from meal to meal or day to day!

Richard’s Forest Camp is also ready to fully open its doors. This isolated, tented gem of a camp in the Ol Charo-Lemek area of the Mara was where Richard & Liz’s safari story all began. Set amidst a leafy haven of the conservancy with eight large, traditional, and beautifully appointed tents, Richard’s Forest Camp offers discerning guests an abundance of privacy… although they will have to share the area with the resident leopards, lions, giraffe and elephants that also wander through camp. You can now stay at Richard’s Forest Camp on an exclusive-use basis from December 2021 onwards. Whether you require an intimate sanctuary for a small collection of family and friends or a truly private oasis for a larger group of adventurers, Forest Camp is the perfect option for those who seek total exclusivity whilst on safari in the greatest wildlife destination on earth.

This year Richard’s celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Mara Elephant Project (MEP), a conservation initiative founded by Richard & Liz to help alleviate human/wildlife conflict and protect elephants from an alarming escalation in poaching activities. Since its inception, MEP has not only evolved into one of the leading elephant monitoring, evaluation, and protection services, but also provides employment to local rangers who have come to benefit from protecting these magnificent mammoths of the Mara. Their commitment has disrupted poaching in the greater Mara ecosystems, safeguard critical forest habitat and kept community farms and families safe. We extend our hearty congratulations to MEP on this important milestone and wish them many more years of success ahead.

We have already mentioned how delicious the food at Richard’s River Camp is, well we need to embellish on this. After everything that everyone has been through in the past 18 months, a sweet treat to lose the blues is exactly what the doctor ordered. Guests at Richard’s have been raving about their Orange & Pistachio Baklava and the good news is that you can now whip this up in your own kitchen, click the link to see how you can!
