Sosian Lodge Updates
There have been quite a few changes and upgrades at Sosian ahead of an incredibly busy high season -here are a few updates.
The kitchen has had a complete renovation with stainless steel countertops, central ovens and a cold room recently built. The kitchen team and chefs are beyond excited at producing fresh meals for all guests. The Chefs did a wonderful weeklong cooking course with Alice Coulson, the focus was on presentation and making delicious healthy, home-cooked meals.
All of the cottages have had their bathrooms renovated. The bathrooms have had a wonderful facelift and are now looking fresh and chic. The hot water has been upgraded to solar heaters, although the traditional kuni boosters are kept as backup for a rainy day.
The guides at Sosian have recently completed a 10-day guiding course with Ollie Outram and there have already been two successful completions by Simon and James who are fully qualified walking guides. They have already taken a number of guests out on multiple walks as it is one of the best ways to see a different perspective of the bush.
There are several new horses in the yard that are all proving to be absolute gems to ride. There are also a couple of young horses that have been backed within this last year and Boni the head guide is now trained and taking a number of the riding safaris out. Sosian Horseback Safaris are being offered again with a set departure heading out in December. Sosian offers a great variety of riding, across open plains filled with zebra, oryx, giraffe, eland, and gazelle.
Cycling on the new mountain bikes with the knowledgeable guides makes for a great experience, and the best way to fully understand animal behaviour and spot all the small things you might possibly miss on a game drive.
Milka, Margaret and Pauline have now done their courses in Swedish massages. The massages are usually 1.5 hours long and are the perfect way to relax on safari or after a long day in the saddle.
Megan is now in her third year of managing the lodge at Sosian and is a hit with everyone who meets her and together with her assistant David, they orchestrate a wonderfully smooth operation. Megan is a passionate horsewoman and is often out guiding guests, or setting up a bush brunch, or a fly camp for the night. Megan is always there at mealtimes to check in on everyone and she is the most phenomenal hostess.
David remains one of the most integral parts of the Sosian team, having been with there for 20 years. He is a kind and familiar face and always smiling. An assistant manager, David is both front and back of house, and knows exactly what is happening at any given time. He bases himself at the lodge to always be there when the guests come and go from the array of different experiences happening all day, every day.
