This stunning owner-run camp safari lodge, inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’ is located 300 metres high above the floor of Africa’s Great Rift Valley overlooking the endless plains of the mighty Maasai Mara. This stunning game reserve is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful game reserves throughout all of the African continent. And what better way than to spend your time in one of Africa’s most stunning reserves, to stay in a lodge that reflects its beauty? At Angama Mara, guests will find a lodge where everything is ‘as it ought to be with two intimate camps of just fifteen tented suites, a private airfield and access to the Mara just below. Tailor made safari days await and a famously warm Kenyan welcome.

Days within the lodge are as action-packed or as gentle as guests choose them to be. The Mara Triangle with its tall tall grass spreading across vast plains and home to Africa’s greatest mammals, a mere ten-minute drive from the lodge, with guests can experience hot air ballooning, walking safaris, cultural visits to neighbouring Maasai villages, or just simply relax and take in the beauty of the Mara.

You can tell that upon visiting a happy place, it will always start from the top. At the heart of Angama Mara you are sure to find a kind, warm and gentle team of Kenyans who take loving care of all the guests that step through the door. The lodges family of safari guides, chefs, butlers, housekeepers and camp managers is driven by the guests delight – the joy of being of service runs deep in this owner-run safari lodge.

The rare beauty of the site in which Angama Mara stands has had an emotional effect on visitors evoking an almost dreamlike quality of being somewhere between heaven and earth. Guests instantly connect with the romance of the setting, where some of the loveliest scenes from the movie Out of Africa were filmed. No tented suite has the best view, or the worst – all of the luxury tented rooms are spread along the edge of the Rift Valley. Unrivalled exclusivity with a private airfield and a track directly into the reserve. The 700-hectare site directly borders the Mara Triangle with a 1.2km of Rift Valley frontage, its own forests and plenty of game on the door step – what’s not to like?!

For the romantic few out there, Angama Mara offers intimate picnics for two on the crest of the Out of Africa kopje that is featured in the movie’s poster. A Maasai naturalist escorts guests up the hill to discover an old-world private picnic scene – checked blankets, comfy cushions, canvas safari chairs, a wicker picnic basket, sparkling wine on ice, coffee, elegant picnic food and of course that view!

“Up in this air you breathed easily, drawing in a vital assurance and lightness of heart. In the highlands you awoke in the morning and thought: Here I am, where I ought to be”

Karen Blixen, Out of Africa.
