Have you ever thought about Zimbabwe? Well why not? Past press has probably not done Zimbabwe any favours, history as well and like many other countries they have political issues. However, they have an unspoilt wilderness right there, and in our opinion, it is probably one of the most beautiful countries throughout Africa. If you are a David Attenborough fan, then you may have watched his ‘Dynasties’ in 2019, the episode with the wild dogs? Here you would have seen Mana Pools National Park. But what you might not know is that this was filmed in Zimbabwe.

We are going to take you on a tour of some of the wonderful properties in Hwange to start with and then ongoing will take you over to Mana Pools.

Somalisa

Somalisa is in the heart of the Hwange National Park which has one of the best game viewing throughout Zimbabwe. Its location on a seasonal floodplain ensures there is game all year round. This wonderfully small camp, consisting of six spacious, elegant, colonial rooms, is run by seriously knowledgeable staff and the guides, whose infectious enthusiasm for the area they work in, and the Zimbabwean bush around Somalisa, cannot fail to get guests enthused too. After the rains fall onto the plains surrounding Somalisa, a blanket of the prettiest flowers begins to emerge and cover the ground. It is a sight not to be missed.

Deteema Springs

Snuggled into the northern region of Hwange National Park you will find a small concession where Deteema Springs sits. This is a very new camp that only opened its doors in 2019, sit high on the rocky kopje above a natural spring. Because of this, the wildlife concentration around this camp is superb. Elephant often frequent this small intimate camp. With 7 comfortable tents and one larger family suite, this camp is perfect for social distancing. Fine dining within your own rooms or socially distanced in the main area of the camp, you will undoubtedly feel comfortable post COVID-19 travel.

Matetsi

Flying away from Hwange, we want to take you to the banks of the Zambezi river, on the Zimbabwean side of course. Matetsi lies on its own private game reserve just a stone’s throw from Victoria Falls, 40km to be exact! Matetsi is split into two camps, a private camp you can enjoy to yourself with your own private butler and fabulous guides. The other side to Matetsi being nine very spacious, superb in design, very chic and also very private suites. This camp is incredibly luxurious and a fabulous private experience showing you the real wilderness of Zimbabwe.

We urge you to start thinking about travelling to this stunning area of Africa. Zimbabwe’s people, its wilderness, the lodges above are only a tester of some others we can highly recommend. This country is a no brainer to travel to and we insist it be top of your list on places to visit at some point in the year 2021. 2020 has not been the year we thought, so having something in place like Zimbabwe, is a wonderful reward.
