If you’re looking for that once in a lifetime trip away, to a destination not many have been to and bizarrely not many have as their top option either – this utterly baffles us, as this specific African country is probably one of our favourites – Zambia is the place for you.

I am sure you have read previous blogs where we let you know how much we adore this stunning country, but I feel we need to still press the issue of just how incredible this country is. We often refer to her as Botswana’s lesser known sister, as Zambia offers a very similar experience to that of the Okavango Delta, especially down within the Lower Zambezi National Park and two camps in particular are the crème de la crème of properties – Sausage Tree Camp and the adjacent camp Potato Bush Camp.

oth these camps are located in a truly remote and truly breath-taking remote location, you are extremely unlikely to bump into anyone else whilst staying here, on our trips to Zambia’s Lower Zambezi, both Rose and myself have probably bumped into one other vehicle when we are there – and in the whole retrospect of things considering how many times we have been lucky enough to visit these lodges, this is very little!

Sausage Tree Camp has recently gone through an extremely lush and lavish refurbishment, both interior as well as structural, which has, in all honestly, left us speechless. The style is not overly flashy at all and totally in keeping with the natural hues, sights, sounds and smells of the surrounding bush. The rooms are all incredibly private with even their own spacious decking and private plunge pools. Sausage Tree Camp is perfect for couples travelling and Potato Bush Camp, lying just next door to Sausage Tree Camp is perfect for groups of friends and families.

If we haven’t sold this camp to you enough on just its fantastic location and wonderful new design, we can hopefully top it!! Taking into account how time consuming it can be to travel to this wonderful location (it is most definitely worth the travel time to get here) Sausage Tree have now purchased their own plane to fly guests of the Sausage Tree & Potato Bush for free. The plane is a twin-engine Cessna 402C which seats 7 guests in executive style seating, 6 people in the back and one space for one lucky person alongside the pilot at the very front of the plane.

However, in order to secure your flight for free, you will have to book a minimum of 4 x nights at either Sausage Tree Camp or Potato Bush Camp. I’m sure we can twist your arm to stay that one or two days extra…! Direct flights in and out of Jeki Airstrip will be from Livingstone, Lusaka, Mfuwe and Kafue National Park. Flight times are promised to be at convenient times of the day so as not to hinder your experience and make it all as seamless as possible. The Luxury Safari Company for one cannot wait to find out how smooth this process will be!
