We specialize in top end safaris, the phrase can actually mean many different things. No matter what we arrange it is always top end, from the guides to the food to the locations – top end means different things to different people. We start by giving a truly top end service to our clients when we organise their safari, we are contactable almost all the time and are quick with requites and to answer any questions. This then extends to completely seamless operations when the client is on one of our luxury safaris.
Top end safaris can take you all over Africa and since safari means journey, some of the top safaris don’t always include solely game viewing areas. Some of the top safari destinations also have stunning scenery and should not be overlooked in favour of areas with abundant game, but should rather be combined with other top end safari spots to create the perfect itinerary. South Africa (amongst a few of our other safari destinations) is one of the most ideal places to show off the fact that Africa really can give you all sorts of combinations of experiences in just a short amount of time. Here we discuss some of the top African safari spots in South Africa, not all of which are all about the wildlife. Many people when booking top end Africa overlook the luxury properties which don’t have as much game as say the Sabi Sands or Madikwe – South Africa works so perfectly when it comes to internal flights and transfers that you can combine many different top safari locations with some of the most scenic and rewarding travel destinations in the world. South Africa is famous for it’s fantastic food and wine, and cosmopolitan life in Cape Town – why not explore all of these areas. Here are three of our favourite properties in South Africa, all of which are top end and unknown:
KURLAND – Plettenberg Bay, South Africa
Kurland Hotel has just 12 spacious suites and is one of the top end hotels in South Africa – it is in fact one of the world’s most luxurious hotels. The luxury and superior suites all have private loft rooms that are specially furnished for children with their own en-suite bathrooms. The luxury suites have secluded courtyards and water features whilst the superior suites all have private pools, which enjoy great views of the estate. The Kurland Villa is another of the top safari locations in Africa and is a large, recently built home designed in the Cape Dutch tradition. The villa is suitable for families or groups looking for an exclusive, secluded country living experience. It is also the perfect base for Polo enthusiasts who might be playing/watching polo at the estate. Kurland offers a range of activities such as, walking, running and hiking trails, mountain bikes (free of charge), quad bikes (free of charge +16 years old), polo instruction, horse riding (charged at R250 per hour), tennis court and picnics on the estate.
VILLA LARA – Cape Town, South Africa
Villa Lara’s deck is big, with a nine-metre-long swimming pool within the centre the villas deck – this exclusive use villa has long been known as one of the top properties to combine with any luxury safari. The entrance through a courtyard leads to a light, double-height sitting room furnished with cream-leather sofas and African artefacts, and decorated with the photographer’s own massive African landscapes. Across the entrance hall, a huge kitchen/dining room opens on to a patio for barbeques, and on the desk there’s room for poolside parties under the frangipani. Upstairs, the master bedroom suite has corner windows and a bath in the en-suite bathroom, positioned for great views over the bay, one of the top safari views in Africa – wild coastline. All four double bedrooms, including a self-contained suite on the lower-ground level, are decorated in seaside shades. There’s speakers everywhere and computerised mood lighting inside and out, Wi-Fi access, and under floor heating and a fireplace for winter visitors.
Tswalu Kalahari lies on the edge of the Kalahari Reserve, within the largest privately owned game reserve in South Africa – now Tswalu Kalahari does have abundant wildlife and as such as a wonderful and top safari destination. This top end lodge itself is divided into two parts. The Motse has eight individual luxury tents two of which have been specially designed for families. Each has a private sun deck providing the perfect place to enjoy the views and an outdoor heated swimming pool is also available. There is also a mezzanine library equipped with satellite TV and museum cases that display rare artefacts from the area. Tarkuni sleeps up to 10 guests and is the ideal option for larger families. All the rooms have an en-suite bathroom that features free standing tubs and both indoor and outdoor showers. The lodge is self-contained and has big living and dining areas, a library, pool, chef and its own private game viewing vehicle.
When thinking about top end safaris there are certainly some combinations we could put together which would be very hard to beat in terms of combining Africa’s best camps, best areas and best game viewing. That’s our specialty – we are constantly sourcing new and exciting experiences in Africa and know all of the top end safari camps intimately. With us you can guarantee that you will also have access to the best safari guides and top of the range conservation experts. We make it our business to be able to organise excursions for you that others don’t even know exist.
Moving onwards to Tanzania – the following top end safari itinerary, which we have created has to be considered as one of the best Tanzanian safaris in the world. It would be very hard to find a more life changing or magical safari experience than the ones you would have at the following camps. With this top luxury safari you can have ten nights staying at Africa’s most unique and luxurious private camps. Begin with four nights at Chada Katavi in Western Tanzania – this remote camp offers an insight into what Africa looked like fifty years ago. Huge vistas stretch below you dotted with hundreds of plains game species, and predators around every corner.
You will next move onwards for three nights at Kigelia in Ruaha – once again this area is relatively unexplored and your game viewing here will be exclusively for you and will be dramatic and exciting. Finally you will have three relaxing nights at the magical Sand Rivers Selous – this lodge is so special that it is often hard to find words to express how much this experience will affect you. The comfy and homely lodge overlooks the mighty Rufjiji River which is bursting with hippos – days are spent game viewing and enjoying river life. These three luxurious and remote safari properties make up a very unique itinerary. All three of these camps are considered some of the best in Africa. If you want wild, authentic and luxurious this is the itinerary for you.
