The festive season has already arrived for some of us and it I quickly approaching out in South Africa! This year has been one for many new beginnings at many of our lodges and camps and long may it continue. Babylonstoren, located in South Africa’s stunning winelands has just introduced a brand-new addition to the hotel. I suppose we can view it as a happy Christmas and new year from them to you perhaps? Introducing the Fynbos Cottages.

Babylonstoren is a property that oozes relaxation, health and happiness throughout and this new addition is the icing on the cake. Guests who find themselves staying at Babylontstoren and especially at the Fynbos Cottages can cape themselves in the sheer beauty of the natural surrounding plant habitat of the magnificent Western Cape Mountains. Each Fynbos Cottage, of which there are four, all with two bedrooms as well as a further two cottages with one bedroom are built within keeping of the Cape Dutch Style inhabited by Babylonstoren. The cottages are all snuggled by the adjoining orchards and vineyards which, to be honest, is the ideal location for the more adventurous guests.

All of the Fynbos Cottages at Babylonstoren have breath takingly superb views over the rolling landscape and farm damn of the area. It is a very peaceful and serene location which is more than ideal for guests who may be looking to disappear into a more private location, especially if they have been following the hustle and bustle of Cape Town. Avid birdwatcher, twitchers alike and nature lovers on a whole would most definitely approve of the location – there have been over 78 species of birds spotted on the farm and who knows, you may even be lucky enough to hear the soulful mew of a pair of fish eagles.

There are a range of wonderful activities for guests to enjoy and take part in. The Fynbos Cottages have a large spacious lounge called The Pool Room for the exclusive use of the Fynbos guests, totally separate from the main hotel. Take a plunge in the crystal-clear swimming pool or simply relax with a glass of locally made Babylonstoren Rose wine overlooking the natural pools all cleaned naturally by indigenous, oxygenating plants. The Cottages are named after ‘fine-leaved’ plants after all! Guests who stay at the Fynbos Cottages are free to help themselves to coffee, tea brewed from freshly picked herbs from the garden, wines and other drinks.

The location of Babylonstoren is ideal to intersperse your trip between Cape Town before journeying on to the Kruger or Madikwe or even on to Botswana or Zambia for your safari. It’s a relaxing interim making sure you relax away from the loud city noises before immersing yourself in the quiet nights of the African bush. Do get in touch if you would like to organise a city, winelands and safari escape, we’re waiting for you call to talk until the cows come home! It will be a trip of a lifetime, we can assure you!
