Maybe you have decided to stay out all day on a game drive on your luxury safari so that you do not miss a moment of wildlife viewing or perhaps you would prefer to spend some part of the day enjoying your luxury camp, but one thing that is certain is that a delicious al fresco lunch is very important and we make sure there is always one included in every luxury safari we operate! Whether under the canopy of a tree or on the banks of a river it is surely a good time to take a break and have a talk about the morning and discuss what the afternoon may bring. Our team at The Luxury Safari Company have experienced some of the best outdoor lunches, maybe followed by a siesta in the shade of an acacia tree on the plains of the Masai Mara or reading a good book swinging in a hammock overlooking a waterhole. You never know when you may be joined by a wild guest which only adds to the enjoyment.

This is particularly true at Sirikoi which is situated in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Northern Kenya. Here you can sit back in a comfortable chair and watch all the comings and goings at the waterhole whilst enjoying a superb lunch which weather permitting is always served outside. Maybe the resident giraffe, Nditu, will join you and you may be lucky enough to see a herd of elephants gathering at the water’s edge.

Lunch in the bush under the shade of an acacia tree is always a special way of whiling away an hour or two between game drives – we think the food on our luxury safaris tastes even more delicious as it’s served outside. The guides at Dunia Camp in the Central Serengeti will choose the perfect spot and your safari adventure can continue uninterrupted. The animals will continue with their day all around you and you may choose to have a short siesta in the shade while your guide keeps watch or just read a book listening to the sounds of the African plains.

Chem Chem is situated in a private wildlife reserve bordering Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park in Northern Tanzania and is one of the top luxury safari camps in this region. How about a luxury bush lunch on the shore of Lake Manyara watching the flamingos or stopping somewhere while on a bush walk with the local Masai for a delicious bush picnic? The joy of this private concession is that there are many options for an outdoor meal.

Zambia offers fantastic game viewing and the luxurious Sausage Tree Camp in the Lower Zambezi is a great place to experience to experience open air dining – the staff at this impossibly luxurious safari camp are very inventive and will certainly easily be able to find the top spot for your bush lunch. Perhaps you will be going canoeing or walking in the afternoon or indulging in a spot of fishing, but take time to enjoy your lunch in this amazing place.

The plains of the Masai Mara are a favourite place of ours at The Luxury Safari Company to have lunch. There are so many options. Perhaps you will choose to be beside a river pulsating with pods of hippos as they cool down in the heat of the day, perhaps it will be on a hill watching the wildlife below or just in the middle of these vast plains. You can be guaranteed to have a fantastic picnic and you will feel that you have not missed a minute of any action taking place all around you.

So the choice is endless and it is your decision as to where you choose to spend it.
