Located in the middle of the Timbavati, along the banks of the Nlharalumi river, Tanda Tula is perched with its tented Meru-style tented suites overlooking the African bush. We have news that the camp is now undergoing a huge overhaul with look and interior design and will be opening its doors in May 2023.

In place of Tanda Tula closing its doors for the time being, they have a new temporary replacement in Tanda Tula Plains Camp, located within the same area of the Timbavati, offering exactly the same feel as the original Tanda Tula, but with a different location and slightly different non-tented accommodation. We feel it is an exemplary, temporary replacement whilst the original Tanda Tula is under reconstruction and offers the same feel and has some of the same friendly faces to welcome you to stay.

Set in the same location, overlooking the Nlharalumi riverbed, Tanda Tula will welcome their guests to the new and more ecologically sensitive camp with a lighter footprint. Building is well under way and the new design embodies the essence of Tanda Tula Safari Camp and will continue to connect with their guests, to the African wilderness through canvas.

With renowned architect Nick Plewman, they have created a modern African design with a lighter footprint influenced by the surrounding culture and creativity. After 27 years their infrastructure requires modernisation to be true to their ethos of protecting the wilderness for generations to come. Tanda Tula’s purpose remains the same and is the chore of who they are, continuing to celebrate Africa, explore new and wild spaces, inspire change and to connect more to the people.
