New updates from our friends in Southern Africa. One of our favourite places to stay in South Africa’s Timbavati region of the Kruger, spacious tented canvas suites, all built on stilts looking out onto a dried-up riverbed, en suite bathrooms with inside and outside showers and cosy to boot. We have news that Tanda Tula will be temporarily closing its doors to the public as it undergoes a transformation within its interior and over all build.

As of today, 1st March, Tanda Tula will move their fabulous team and camp headquarters from Tanda Tula Safari Camp to the spacious homestead that will, until 31st March 2023 and will now be known as Tanda Tula Plains Camp. While their flagship Safari Camp undergoes a full rebuild in a year-long transformation, it is fabulous that they will still be operating, albeit under a different name and slightly different location. In the new location, guests can look forward to the same wonderful team (including chef Ryan’s special culinary delights!), the same wild spaces of the stunning Timbavati, the same philosophy to celebrate, explore, inspire, and connect with nature. The gentle wake-up calls with hot tea and coffee at your suite, famous bush breakfasts and the warmth and relaxation that Tanda Tula is loved remains. But the new camp, with its 2 family suites pave the way for a new normal when the Safari Camp reopens next year for the big reveal!

Now for a bit about the Plains Camp. Tanda Tula Plains Camp comprises 6 luxury suites, and 2 family suites. The suites are permanent structures and each one has a private plunge pool, en suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, and they will feel pleasantly familiar with Tanda Tula pieces and décor. Children from 6 years old and older are all welcome. All suites are wonderfully spacious, with air conditioning, private plunge pools, hairdryers, WiFi and fans. The Plains Camp is located north-east of the main gate to Timbavati on top of a ridge, approximately 20 minutes’ drive from the Eastgate Airport.

Alternatively, Tanda Tula Field Camp, which opens its Canvas Tented doors on the 1st of April, it is the perfect place to stay for those seeking adventure and a complete immersion into nature. It is one of the few places within the Timbavati that you can truly connect and be distracted in the right direction with the surrounding wildlife, flora and fauna. Small and intimate, the camp consists of 4 explorer style tents, solely adapted for exclusive use only, with a maximum of 8 guests, so perfect for family groups of groups of friends looking for the ultimate adventure stay. Unlike Tanda Tula and Tanda Tula Plains Camp, there is no WiFi available, enabling you to completely switch off from day-to-day gadgets (apart from your camera) and to really allow you to relax and feel like you are the only person on the planet. (Children from 13 years and older are welcome).
