Machaba Camp

Location: Khwai, Moremi, Okavango Delta
No of rooms: 10 luxury tents
Style: Ultra luxurious mobile camp with touches of old fashioned elegance
Highlights: Exceptional game viewing in and outside of camp
Dining: Under the trees and stars, or in the mess tent
What’s the difference: This camp feels like a mobile camp but has all the extreme comfort of a permanent camp – camps in Botswana have often been overtaken by permanent structures until they don’t resemble a tent at all – Machaba still is very much a tented camp, but has the fabulous décor of an ultra luxurious mobile camp.

Machaba is the local Setswana name for the Sycamore Fig Tree, the tree of life. Machaba Camp is indeed situated amongst these enormous trees and in the game rich area of Khwai – we don’t usually get excited about new camps in Botswana, there are already so many people doing such a good job – but this camp is different, it has actually managed to keep the feel of a romantic tented camp but installed all the luxury of an extremely, well, luxurious camp. It’s all Persian carpets and comfy beds that you want to laze around in all day.

The camp has retained the classic 1950’s style with romantic outdoor showers and views of the Khwai River which is often visited by all types of wildlife. We cannot reiterate strongly enough how much you should try to include this camp in your Botswana safari.
