The Kalahari
Location: 70% of Botswana, mostly in the South
Climate: Dry season Apr-Oct, Wet season Nov-Apr. Can be extremely hot and pleasantly mild at night.
Typical Landscape: Desert with some wildlife supported in the semi-desert areas
The Kalahari covers 900,000 sq km most of which is in Botswana, but also Namibia and South Africa. It is semi-desert and does support some wildlife, as some of it is not true desert. There are small amounts of rainfall each year. The Okavango River creates marshes in the Kalahari that are right in wildlife and support elephant, giraffe, leopard, cheetah, hyena and much more.
