Tortilis is Amboseli’s best known tented camp and is situated within a 30,00 acre private game concession amongst Acacia Tortilis woodland. The tents are spacious with thatched roofs overhead and verandahs to watch the local wildlife and birdlife – the camp is built out of local materials  and the sitting room, dining room and bar are cosy and welcoming.

Tortilis camp offers game drives, bush walks, swimming pool, bush breakfasts, sundowners and massages, cultural vists and excursions to the Cynthia Moss Elephant Research Centre. Tortilis Camp is involved in a number of community development schemes and eco preservation projects including supplying the local community with access to clean drinking water, a provisions shop, and washing facilities – Tortilis has also developed funds to build a new primary school and clinic, and hopefully a secondary school at a later stage. More than 60% of staff come from the local community and are trained at the camp.
