Peponis is a small hotel in Shela, by far the most beautiful town on Lamu island – the streets are covered in bougainvillea and immaculate. Peponis bar and restaurant sit directly on the seafront, and to your right some stone steps lead down to Shela beach, which consists of miles and miles of wide sandy deserted beach. Peponis is famous for being the hang out of some of Kenya’s true characters. It is small and personal and all rooms have ocean views. Swing hammocks under the shade of coconut trees and a fresh water free form swimming pool under two giant Baobab trees offer the perfect places to relax.
